Dear NvT, Through Robert Burrowes I just received a copy of NvT #31 and really enjoyed reading it (and will certainly continue to do so in the future). I am doing a PhD at the ANU, investigating why and with what consequences authors who write about civil disobedience/ nonviolent actions have been marginilized continuously by dominant societal discourses. In the last few years I have done some research on the role of nonviolent struggle in the collapse of East Germany (parts of it appeared as an Albert Einstein Institution monograph Nonviolent Struggle and the Revolution in East Germany and in a forthcoming book by Douglas Bond Transforming Struggle in Comparative Perspective). I think the role of nonviolent action in the mass protests of 1989 was extremely crucial and has not received the attention that it deserves. In any case, I wanted to congratulate you on your publication. Roland Bleiker
