This resulted in a proposal to amend our policy documents on Peace and Security, and Tax and Revenue. The clauses were ratified at our recent Annual Conference and the texts appear below. The fact that we have it in our policies means that we are going to work politically for the idea and will be able to obtain a change whenever we have enough clout. Unfortunately, this does not seem so as yet, but we are there for the long haul. Let me thank you for your pioneering efforts in this respect and wish you all the best in your fight against the ATO. Gosta Lynga secretary Australian Greens ---------------------------------------------------------- Amendment clauses: Peace and Security Principles The Australian Greens are committed to protecting the rights of conscientious objectors not to participate in war as members of the military and not to contribute to the war industry and war preparation through their taxes; and establishing a Peace Trust Fund into which should be paid those taxes of conscientious objectors that otherwise would support the war budget. Tax and Revenue Peace Trust Fund As detailed in the policy document on Peace and Security the Australian Greens maintain that a conscientious objector should not have to pay tax that is to be used for a war effort or for the preparation for war. That part of the objector’s tax should instead be used in a Peace Trust Fund to promote peace efforts by non- violent means.
