Lithuanian Nv Action Centre

Our  general  goal  for the 1991-1992 years is to form  the  inclination  of 
the Lithuanian society to solve political  and social problems using
nonviolent methods.                      

Our functions:
1.  Cognitive function - cognition of solving problems through nonviolent
methods, and learning the history and the variety of methods of nonviolent
struggle.  The analysis and forecasting of peculiarities of the Lithuanian
nonviolent struggle.

* To establish the scientific research groups for the realisation of the
concrete programmes: "The Nonviolent Struggle in Lithuania";  "The
Phenomenology of the Nonviolent Consciousness".

* To organize scientific and practical conferences, seminars, symposia, etc:
To  organize a  conference 'Nonviolent Struggle  in Eastern Europe; To
organize a constant workshop on the ethics of nonviolence.

* To organize publishing activities:  To prepare the following books for
publishing: "The Nonviolent Struggle - Theory and Practice" Gene Sharp
"Civilian Based Defence"; To compile a photo-album "The Road of Lithuania".

* To establish relations with foreign scientific centres analysing the
experience of nonviolent movements and with public organisations  involved
into nonviolent movement.

2. Educational function - the dissemination of knowledge about the nature and
possibilities of the nonviolent solution  of conflicts; and the 
popularisation of nonviolent resistance methods.

* To establish a public library, a reading hall, and a public video-hall.

* To organize a constant telecast and a radio coverage once a month.

* To organize public lectures.

* To render academic and financial support to the students and  postgraduates
who make research in the fields of theory and history of nonviolent
resistance: To establish two scholarships for the 1992-1993 academic year.

3.  Practical applied function - to encourage the application of nonviolent
methods in life.

* To cooperate  with state institutions providing them with consultations and
expert evaluations.

* To prepare a programme of teaching theoretical and practical  solutions of
political  and  social conflicts through nonviolent actions.
