ANN Phone Link-up 7 October '94 Alana - Northern Territory. Three recent East Timor demonstrations were a great NvA success and resulted later in some plea bargaining which went wrong for the court, but right for the activists concerned. Other issues have been preparing for input into the ALP National Conference and issues around the black/green interface. Kevin - North Queensland. Two NvA workshops have been held. One on Oyster Point development project and the other on the Skyrail construction. Bryan Law and James Langley are busy in Queensland with the poster campaign on NvA. Melissa - Brisbane. She has just run a two-day NvA session with Kevin, has been liaising with Brisbane police, and is helping to run the poster campaign. Jack - Tasmania. NvA and Networking workshops have been held in the north of the state. There are issues about the question of water catchments being polluted by the Tasmanian Forestry Commission, with the herbicide Atrazine and the poison 1080. The ALP National Conference was in Tasmania. There have been strong NvA demonstrations around environmental and forest issues. Jo - Daylesford, Victoria. There is NvA by a very active women's group with at least seven women participating. The men's group is playing a support role. There was a brilliant action a couple of months ago involving the Melbourne Peace Fleet, etc., culminating in a funeral service. Jo broke her leg in an accident when scaling the barracks wall. Kay - East Gippsland. Much networking has been happening. The NvA facilitation group have been making contact with outlying activists and have begun the planning for the next ANN gathering (21 - 25 April). The Collective have come into windfall funds and are now equipped with a fax and state-of-the-art photocopier, etc. Some international networking is happening. Paul - Southwest West Australia. There will be two training sessions in the next couple of weeks for the Forest Rescue Campaign which is planned to develop in a much more decentralised way. Brenda and Sonia - West Australia. They are involved in the same issues as Paul. A reference to 'Alternatives to Violence Project' caused Kevin to remark that he had problems with the way that this had been developed.
